Why do people have glasses?

Imagine this, you wake up one morning and it’s a really bad day for you. You try to find your glasses but you just can’t. Oh no, you are running late to school. You still have to brush your teeth, comb your hair, and eat. Once you finally arrive at school your mask keeps fogging up your glasses. You try to fix it and finally you fix it. But you forget to listen and it is already time for the next subject. At recess, you have to be careful of the ball hitting you in the face or else your glasses would break. Finally, it is the last class of the day. In the middle you realize your glasses are dirty. It takes some time to clean glasses. If you tease people about glasses, will you feel good having to do all the things in the intro. Well, when I first got my glasses in 1st grade, if you had to do all these things in the morning and at school, this was actually a day that I still remember. It was when I first got glasses. But do you know why people need to wear glasses? (LET CLASS ANSWER QUESTION) Well, people have glasses for many different reasons. Some people need it for their eyesight.

To understand why people have glasses, you must understand power. If it is 0 that means you have 20/20 vision. If it is anything below zero, you will not be able to see things clearly that are near to you. If your power is over zero, that means you can not see far, like me. If you have power lower than -2.5, you are legally blind. In case anyone does not know what blind means, it is when you can not see anything at all except black everywhere.

The first reason why people could have glasses is that they have bad eyesight. If you have bad eyesight you may have myopia, hypermetropia or astigmatism ect. Myopia is when you can’t see far. Hypermetropia is when you can’t see what happens with people that are 40+. Lastly is astigmatism. Astigmatism is when half of your eye is one power and the rest is a different power because it can’t focus on something. Just like my mom, you will start to see things double if you have astigmatism.

So, that's all. Will you think twice to judge someone with glasses now? I hope now! There are many challenges to having glasses like the ones I told you in the intro. Thank you for listening to my presentation!
